Touchdown! – 5 Great Uses of Football in Local Political Ads

Editor’s Note: We posted this prior to Thanksgiving last year, and given the Super Bowl this Sunday, and the fact that it’s a great list, we decided to give it another spin. – RT

The Super Bowl is this Sunday!

What better reason for us than to highlight 5 great uses of football in candidates’ political ads.  As with our other video lists, they range from the silly to the serious, but unlike our past lists, these five are all very well done.

1. Coach Roy Carter for Congress (NC -5) – 2008

This is one of those campaign ads that makes you smile throughout.  Alas, Democrat Roy Carter lost his bid for this safe Republican seat.

2. Dan Adler for Congress (CA-36) – 2011 Special Election

This almost made our list of “Celebrities in Local Political Ads” post, but who could pass up putting a recreation of one of the greatest football movies of all time on this list?  Dan Adler lost.

3. Joyce Elliott for Congress (AR-2) – 2010

Who says you have to show football to have a great football themed ad?  The master himself, Bill Clinton, gives a great football analogy for this political ad.  Elliot won.

4. Mark Ridley-Thomas for Los Angeles County Supervisor – 2010

Don’t forget college football! Mark Ridley-Thomas takes some time out to chat and throw the ball around with Former NFL stars and USC Trojan Football heroes Keyshawn Johnson and Rodney Peete. Ridley-Thomas won.

5. Will Shafroth for Congress (CO-2) – 2008

Finally!  A tackle metaphor! (Shafroth lost the Dem primary)

We’re sure we’re missing some great ones!  Let us know in the comments, or email us at contact@walksheet.com!
