Senate or Senate? Woman Mistakenly Files for Wrong Office

The lesson from this story is that it counts to double check the forms you file for your candidacy, and probably not a bad idea to have one or two people close to you go over it as well.

A woman from Minnesota ended up in the wrong office because she mistakenly filed to run for State Senate, instead of U.S. Senate as she intended.

From SCTimes.com:

A Fridley woman has filed as a candidate to challenge Paynesville state Sen. Michelle Fischbach in a GOP primary, though she says she intended to run for U.S. Senate instead.

When asked Wednesday if she plans to withdraw her state Senate candidacy, Yusuf said she hasn’t decided what to do next.

But Yusuf added she doesn’t plan to run in state Senate District 13, which includes Sartell, Sauk Rapids, St. Joseph and parts of central and southern Stearns County. Instead, Yusuf says she hopes there’s still a way she can run for U.S. Senate.”

Other than filing for the wrong office, the story is surprising in that you’d think that someone who stumbled into the wrong race would be running for the lower office (not U.S. Senate).
