Our soon-to-be favorite local politico, Warren, Michigan Mayor Jim Fouts, has a new negative story about him. Previously, we ran a story about him potentially lying about his age, and recently a story about him offering $5,000 for information on who sent anonymous hit pieces alleging an improper relationship with a former aid. He seems to be a magnet for bad news, but the latest story is pushing it–in our opinion–for newsworthy-ness.
From myFoxDetroit.com:
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts’ birthday was in early August and he was supposed to renew his driver’s license then, but failed to do so.
“I am extremely embarrassed by it. I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know it’s been expired for, it would’ve been two weeks yesterday, so I’m going to obviously take care of it,” he said.
Obviously, it is incredibly stupid for a candidate in a contested race to not make sure he had his license and any other paperwork complete during this time, but is the media making too much out of a two week old expired license?
I guess the lesson here is: every stupid little mistake you make can hurt you in the campaign.
How would you have handled it (given you forgot to send in your renewal like Mayor Fouts)?
Leave your thoughts in the comments!

I would address the problem openly and publicly. Explain that it was a simple administrative error, and SEND IN THAT APPLICATION AS SOOS AS POSSIBLE.
